May 2, 2011 - B.I.H. Osama bin Laden
May 2nd, 2011Only one thing has inspired me enough to post for the first time in nearly a year, and it's the news that Osama bin Laden is dead.

I was watching a recording of the Royal Wedding on my DVD when I checked my phone and got the tweet from CNN Breaking news. It's definitely one of those moments that make you pause and think. And reread.
I'm still paranoid that they've announced DNA results will be available in a few days, while other sources say that they've already done it, which was why Obama was confident enough to announce the death. In the meantime, they've used a facial recognition system and other methods to ID him, but people with giant targets on them have used surgically-altered decoys in the past.
But, I'm hopeful that Obama wouldn't announce this until he was absolutely sure, DNA testing or not. Between the Royal Wedding and Osama bin Laden's death, this is the best news week ever!
December 18, 2009 - Holiday/Any day/Shopping/Grocery/Wish List
December 18th, 2009My shopping list that is in progress! Posted for a certain someone who wants to see it so badly *cough*Jackielonereaderofmyblog*cough*! I recycled parts this list from previous wants, online shop wish list, etc. Some have been in limbo for a few years, but I like to see them there.
Quite frankly, I'm running out of space on my whiteboard to write this stuff on. I'll probably be editing this until I leave for Japan. Heck, I'll probably add stuff from Japan when I get there! (the Muse from Musings of a Muse gushes over Japanese cosmetics! My cousin wants me to mail some to her too!) I bought my airplane ticket this month, so I wanna wait 'til next month to buy some of this stuff.
Noooo, I don't expect people to buy all this for me, especially the pricey crap like the Clarisonic! This is more like a reminder for what I wanna buy when I feel like it! I gotta space out my purchases over the months since I don't make money, you know? Since the trip is expensive, I don't wanna bug my parents too hard about super expensive Christmas gifts.
November 29, 2009 - Thanksgiving Round-Up
November 29th, 2009Lets see if I can get into the habit of writing more often again…
On Thanksgiving, I went to Long Island to eat at my relatives' house. Since I didn't get any sleep the previous day, I took a nice long nap there and lazed around in my grandma's room for most of the day.
But the day before Thanksgiving, I had two presentations and zero hours of sleep. I was pretty frantic, as you can probably tell by the random tweets I was sending from the wee hours of the morning until I left for school XD.
I bought myself a brand-new suit for this day. It's my first suit! It has a skirt! After borrowing ill-fitting "business casual attire" from my mom a few years ago, I've always wanted a suit of my own. I was pumped to find a nice fitting one for $80 at Filene's Basement. The cashier gave me a 20% off coupon; she was so sweet!
For the first presentation for COM, each person had to talk for ten minutes. I was the third in my group to go, and the two people before me were pretty articulate. I'm sure I came off as nervous and a bit shaky, and I was even more worried because after each person presented, the professor gave everyone feedback except for me. I didn't think mine was so bad that he couldn't bear to embarrass me in front of the class with criticism, so something had to be up!
I didn't want to be thinking on this for the rest of the Thanksgiving break, so I confronted him about it after class. Good thing I did! He said he was hanging on every word I said and that I basically did everything he told us to do, so he didn't have anything to comment on after I went. I have a hard time believing this, 'cause I tripped on my words a few times, but I'm glad I asked him!
After my second class of the day, I was still feeling pretty confident after the professor's reassurance from the first presentation. That one was ten minutes so the last one, which was only two minutes per person, would be a breeze for sure! But while I was texting my friend, I slipped and fell down the stairs… My back still hurts and I bloodied up my knee and tore my pantyhose. Oh, and people were staring. LOL FAIL.
Fortunately, I brought two extra pairs of pantyhose (and some tights to keep my privates from freezing to death on the way home), since I was sure something would go wrong that day, and sure enough it did. I changed in the bathroom and covered up my knee with a band-aid my friend got for me. All fixed!
After practicing with my group for about an hour, we went to the MKT class. We were the second of three groups to present that day. We did pretty good; I'm surprised at how well the words came out of my mouth without much thinking on my part. We had the cleanest PowerPoint by far; nowhere near as cluttered, wordy, and ugly as the others. Hehe, as a graphic communication major, that's something for me to be proud of.
I'm so glad I got all these presentations out of the way! Plus, for one of the classes, if all the presentations are good, the professor will give us a take-home exam!
May 9, 2009 - Twitter
May 9th, 2009I made a Twitter account. At first I did it just to follow celebs...
But, with finals coming and no time to type up lengthy posts, I think Twitter would be nice for short pointless bursts of updates without taking up any space in my archives.
I stuck my Twitter updates in my sidebar, but I'm gonna try and figure out a way to stick it there with PHP later.
March 11, 2009 - Rimmel Randomness
March 10th, 2009I just saw Sophie Ellis-Bextor in a Rimmel commercial! I don't know how long it's been airing in the US, but I never expected to see her on this side of the Atlantic.

I first heard her dance-pop music in Holland years ago when I was on vacation. The videos for "Get Over You" and "Murder on the Dancefloor" often played on TMF and MTV.
I just noticed most of my music obsessions are British or European.
Is my Anglophilia kickin' up again? ![]()
January 20, 2009 - President Barack Obama
January 20th, 2009There's not much else to say.

Good luck man. You've got economic hell in store.
January 12, 2009 - Spending for the New Year
January 12th, 2009How did I spend the last few weeks? The answer is by buying stuff and installing them. So. Tired.
Sony Bravia flat screen TV
- I used the DTV transition as a reason to buy a new TV. Sure, my parents eventually found out about the converter box, but by then we were all for it.
Apple Mac mini
- I got tired of seeing trojans violating my old computer; it's ~8 years old and only my parents use it. So, I convinced them to get a Mac Mini. It's cheaper than the iMac, but it only comes with the modem.
My parents aren't gonna do much with it, so we just went with it. Before installing it (which was easy), I copied my stuff over to my external HD (which was hard, only 'cause it took hours), then spent a few more hours cleaning the unbelievably dusty, dirty table (which was the hardest task of them all).
Canon 3-in-one wireless Printer/Copier/Scanner
- Ohhhh, this thing was so freakin' heavy. I bought it with the Mac mini aand it came with a rebate, so that was good, but come on, this thing is a million times heavier than the Mac mini itself!
I could barely carry it home, I was wobbly the whole time. Then, I ran into my neighbor on my block; she's pretty old, and she picked up the entire box, threw it over her shoulder, and carried it for about half a block 'til we got home. OMG, she can't be that strong?! So does this mean I'm super-humanly weak?!
Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse
- I planned on reusing the mouse and keyboard from the first computer, but they were so old, the Mac Mini didn't even have the ports for those things! So I got a good wireless desktop combo for ~$30. Oh, I got a separate mousepad a well, 'cause the old one looked diseased.
Office for Mac (Home and Student Edition)
- I had a "illegal" copy of Windows XP on my first computer, and that kept popping up after an update a few months ago. That pissed me off, but I figured since I didn't buy XP and have no need for it anymore, I should at least cough up some cash for Office.
I spent so much on online orders. But it was fun to get all that in the mail. The TV, Mac Mini, and printer was bought in store, but the rest was bought from Amazon and Newegg.
They all replaced older items that we already had. Weird how after all these years, we decided to get rid of everything at once. My mom wants a new couch too; our current one is older than me. But I'm way cuter! Yeah! The couch is butt ugly with solid stains (gross!).
Other online purchases include:
2 Kingston 2 GB microSD cards for a total of $10; after discovering Newegg, I feel like I got ripped off on all my other memory chip purchases.
3 Twilight books for my friend's birthday/Christmas combo present. I never would have thought I'd be ordering that. Though I did like vampires and Buffy and stuff in JHS.
I would have gotten express shipping so it would come in time for her birthday (12/31), but that cost way too much, so I was like "fuck it" and added the third book for free shipping. I figured three later is better than two now.
(BTW, we watched Valkyrie, and it was the most depressing birthday ever 'cause you realize everyone is fucked halfway through. But there was a really, really cute blond cutie in the movie (probably for a total of 10 minutes), and I gushed over him like I did with Oliver Wood/Sean Biggerstaff in one of the Harry Potter movies. Must find his name and pictures! *Looks though cast list* Hmmm, maybe Matthias Schweighöfer? Oh, that's a sexy name.
)
Back on topic... I'm also looking to buy some HDMI cables, which are way overpriced in store (like $80+, *cough*Monster cables*cough*) and it starts from ~$3 (depending on length) at Monoprice. You can find tons of pissed off people if you search "HDMI cable ripoff". Good thing I didn't fall for the salesperson's pitch, HAHA I CONGRATULATE MYSELF ON A JOB WELL DONE.
Strange, the recession makes you want to take advantage of sales (and then brag about it), but it made me buy way more than I expected.
It makes me wanna make money too! Unfortunately, those two haven't balanced out, since I have no real income other than birthday/holiday money.
But I managed to sell a book on Amazon! My total profit was less than $4, but I'm really proud!
And that was how my year began... it's a beautiful story of mindless impulse buys, no?
January 8, 2009 - Monthly pic (long overdue...)
January 8th, 2009Alright, it's (spoiler-free) Shiki Misaki from The World Ends With You!

I just gave up on drawing it in the game's proportion, 'cause trying to make the waist smaller than her head and whatnot just threw off my balance. I still half attempted it though, and I admit I OD'd on the lining. (XD that was fun!)
I think what really put me off was her in-game outfit, so I drew her in the following "threads":

And I just remembered, I totally forgot Mr. Mew!
