August 9, 2005 - Vacation journal: Part II
August 9th, 2005Whew...long delay, but here's the rest:
7/24 - Viva Las Vegas! We stayed at a hotel called the Las Vegas Club or something, can't remember. We ate for 2 hours at a buffet at the Mandalay Bay. I ate so much, it hurt to laugh XD. Afterwards, we went sightseeing 'round the Strip. My mom loved Paris, 'cause the roof inside looked like a night sky. At night, we went to Circus Circus to play games. The first thing I did was go rock climbing, but I got too tired to climb to the top. I rode on a roller coaster there too, but it was really short and a total ripoff at $6. At a McDonald's there, some freaky guy asked me if I was married and how old I was (I just ignored him). We left Vegas around 10 or 11 pm.
7/25 - Tired. I woke up around 9, but stayed in bed till like 4, playing with my cousin's Game Boy (my broken GBA:SP just got repaired and sent back home, according to my dad) and taking naps. I only left twice: to go to the bathroom and to have a quick breakfast, er, lunch. My mom made me get dressed at 5 to go to Main St with my cousins for shopping.
7/26 - Left the house at 8 am with my mom and uncle and headed for Beverly Hills for a quick photo op. Right in front of the sign, the car broke down. A guy drove by and helped us charge the battery or something with the jumper cables, which worked until the car broke down again a couple of miles away, this time for good. While we waited for the tow truck, we caused a bit of traffic, till my uncle pushed it to a less busy street. After the truck came and dropped us off at the mechanic's garage, we took the bus to Little Tokyo. There wasn't much to do; I really wanted to find a DVD/CD shop, but the closest I got to that was a shop that sold lots of anime, manga, and cds. All I bought was a T.M. Revolution cd...
Ah... I didn't keep track of the things I did on the days after this, but I do remember:
7/29 - I went to Six Flags: Hurricane Harbor, and got terrible sunburn. My shoulders, my nose, and the top of my chest (my shoulders hurt the most) were really red (my skin's still shedding). Hehe, I almost drowned in the wave pool.
7/30 - Stayed home, holding my pee in till around 2 pm 'cause the toilet was getting fixed. I watched Ichi the Killer, a wonderfully horrific gory movie I bought a few days before at the Glendale Mall.
7/31 - I went to Disneyland!!!!!!! Yaaaaaaay! It was fun~! But man, were the lines friggin' long! The first thing we did was go on Space Mountain. Afterwards, we headed towards the popular rides. At night, we watched the really cool water show, and right after it, the fireworks. Disneyland's 50th anniversary wasn't too long ago, so the fireworks were spectacular. It was actually better than NY's 4th of July celebration. After that, it was really late, but we still had a fastpass for Splash Mountain. The wait for the ride was 90 minutes (holy shit!) but it only took a couple of minutes for us to get to the front of the line, haha. *sigh* I know it's wrong to laugh at other peoples' misfortunes, but the weary folks in line were giving us dirty looks and stuff, so whatever!
8/01 - Last day in Cali... I relaxed again all day. When my mom went shopping, I watched the rest of Ichi the Killer (I got through half of it last time before me and my cousins started to play hide-and-seek tag). Then, right before we left for the airport, my uncle gave me a gift: a Playstation Portable! EEEEEEEEEEK!!!!!! So happy! But it's soooo expensive! I feel a bit guilty when people other than my parents spend alot on me, but when I opened it on the plane, fixated on it's portable sexiness, all my worries went away. God, I sound self-centered and perverted, but it's true.
Hehe, that's it for now! Maybe I'll post a picture or two when I have time.
August 2, 2005 - I'm baaack!!!
August 2nd, 2005Ahh, home at last! I can believe how clean it is in LA (well, at least the neighborhood where I stayed with my aunt and uncle). There's are so many frickin' palm trees! I didn't get to see a single squirrel... though my relatives told me they're all over the place.
Anyway~, here's my quick little vacation outline:
7/18 - First day in Los Angeles! I got maybe 3, 4 hours of sleep in the last 1-2 days (I'm not to good at keeping track of time)? Still, my mom dragged me to Little Saigon, an hour away from my uncle's house.
7/19-20 - My uncle drove me and my mom 8 hours from LA to San Francisco to stay with more relatives. It's kinda cold here. We went sightseeing (Golden Gate Bridge, Old Faithful, etc.) and returned the next day.
7/21 - Got to know one of my cousins better. I played cards with my cousin Jackie and her friend. Hehe, it's been a while since I played cards, but I managed to play well and got readdicted to them too! Later, we wanted to go to Main St., but gave up after the bus didn't come after waiting for an hour. When my aunt and uncle came home, they took us to Hollywood, where we looked at the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
7/22 - Went to Universal Studios around 8 am. The Studio Tour was cool; there was a set from War of the Worlds. It was mad hot there, so we kept running by the water to keep ourselves cool.
7/23 - Wasted more time at Little Saigon. My mom is seriously obsessed with this place ever since she saw the documentaries on it in Van Son (but in reality, it's boring... at least to me). This time, she wanted to meet her friends here. Me and my cousins got super bored, so we went and bought a deck of cards (heehee) and candy. So my time there wouldn't be completely pointless, I went and bought some shoelaces. Even better, when we got home, the toilet was clogged. I think my cousin Shawn said that my other cousin (so many~... there's no shortage of cousins here or in Holland) Brandon used a lot of toilet paper to wipe his penis (he's, like, two?)
Oh yeah, we left for Las Vegas that night. It's a 5 hour ride.
Well, that's part of my first week in California (and two days in Nevada)! I'll type a bit more later.
July 17, 2005 - My first trip to the west coast!
July 17th, 2005Well, tomorrow's the day when me and my mom head to Cali! I'll be gone for about two weeks, so I might not post until I get back. Maybe I'll finally get some exercise when I get there... I've been sitting in front of the computer, like, all week (manga and anime contributes to obesity...).
This week, I read all of Hana Yori Dango, Jisatsu Circle and Full Moon wo Sagashite. I've also been going through Elfenlied, Love Hina, and I started watching Naruto... busy week, eh? My God, when did I become like this?
July 11, 2005 - My head hurts.
July 11th, 2005Today, I spent an agonizing 5 hours getting my hair permenantly straightened (unlike the typical asian stereotype, my natural hair is an evil, puffy, frizzy mess). The chemicals smell like a mix of acetone and eggs. The actual straightening part with the iron was painful, and took, like, an hour. But my hair's shorter too! It's just below my shoulders. It hasn't been this short since I was four or five years old.
In a week, I'll be off to California! My mom and I are going to visit her cousin or something. I hope it's not too hot there...
